Christmas Hot Cocoa Hostess Gifts

Every year I scratch my head a bit trying to come up with a cute, relatively inexpensive way to treat friends and family to a little holiday cheer. Recently a friend of mine ( Hi Kerri J.!) found an idea much similar to this on Pinterest.  While this is hardly a new or original idea you can make it uniquely yours using some fun packaging.

Super simple and quick, once you've assembled the ingredients you can go to town and be done with a load of gifts in under an hour.

Simply begin by scooping enough hot cocoa mix into the cellophane bags to serve two people. Tie it off then snip off the excess packaging. If you'd like to create an instructions tag that would be nice too.

Use your food writer pens to make snowman faces on the marshmallows.  For 12 Mason jars I used a whole bag of large marshmallows, fitting 3 per jar. There are several brands of food writers available and many can be purchased at craft stores or even now some grocery stores.  I prefer the Americolor brand of food writers and keep them stored in the refrigerator. This significantly prolongs their usefulness.

Place the cocoa in the bottom of the jar, then fit the marshmallows in.  Then seal with the lid. Tie on the schnapps with twine.
If you choose to forgo the schnapps ( this brand Ullr is a divine mix of peppermint and cinnamon), crush up some candy canes and add that to the jar between the cocoa and marshmallows.  And because I'm a dork I forgot to mention in the list that you'll need some pretty ribbon. Tie it up in a neat knot or bow and voila your done!

I usually like to keep small gifts like these in a basket near the front door for drop in guests or neighbors or if I think I'll need to bring a small gift somewhere I know I can just grab it and go.  These also would be great to give to your kids teacher, sans the alcohol of course or maybe even the mailman.

Here are a few links to bloggers who've made similar type treats to get you inspired.
Happy Creating!

  2. I love the whole "package" and your idea of making these and keeping a "grab and go basket." Just another example of how you are always prepared and the ultimate hostess :) Titou
